Competitive Examinations for Class 10:

The following is the list of competitive exams for Class 10:

• NTSE: The National Talent Search Exam encourages students to reason critically while solving problems. NTSE question papers are scientifically designed to test concepts underlying the curriculum. Students from class 10 of recognised schools are eligible. The subjects and study matter are based on the curriculum prescribed by the CBSE board.

• NSTSE: The National Level Science Talent Search Exam is organised by the Unified Council for students from classes 2 to 12. It is one of the most popular scholarship examinations conducted in India.

• IMO: The International Mathematics Olympiad is a competitive exam conducted to identify and encourage the mathematical creativity of children, both in India and abroad. All students studying in classes 1 to 12 from recognised schools are eligible. The subject matter is based on the curriculum prescribed by the CBSE and ICSE boards, and the top rankers per class are awarded scholarships.

• NSEJS: The National Standard Exam in Junior Science is jointly conducted by the IAPT (Indian Association of Physics Teachers) and HBCSE (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Examination). All Indian students from classes 1 to 10 are eligible for it.

• IOS: The International Science Olympiad is an exam held annually at the national and international levels. The conducting body for IOS is the SSE (Society for Science Education). All Indian students from classes 1 to 12 from recognised schools are eligible.

• IIO: The International Information Olympiad is conducted by the Computer Literary Foundation every year. Students from classes 1 to 12 from recognised schools are eligible for it.

• English: Read your text well. Be thorough with your grammar and writing skills, as those are sections where you can lose maximum marks. That should be sufficient.

• Chemistry: Thoroughly study the chapters from the book, learn new definitions (etc.) and solve some numericals from the end of each chapter.

• Physics: This subject and its numerical problems require more practice. Learn definitions of various units of measurements and make sure you understand the causes of various phenomena mentioned in the textbook.

• Biology: Familiarize yourself with the various terminologies and concepts in the textbook. You can also use some reference books to better understand them.

• Maths: This is the most practice-oriented subject in your curriculum. Make sure you study well, understand concepts and then put in lots of practice. To study, NCERT is sufficient. It is also very important to practice previous years’ papers as you’ll need to learn how to write formal proofs. Be very careful with this because proofs generally cost a lot of marks in the geometry section.
